ISEF
Created by Edmond Safra z”l and Lily Safra in 1977, the International Sephardic Education Foundation is the oldest and largest organization dedicated to promoting higher education for gifted Israeli youth from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Since its inception, ISEF has awarded over 14,000 scholarships to students from underprivileged families – including over 1,000 M.A.s and Ph.D.s – at all of Israel’s major universities and colleges, and at prestigious institutions abroad such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Oxford, and the London School of Economics. ISEF’s scholarship winners and alumni serve as leaders and role models in numerous innovative education programs that have impacted over 35,000 underprivileged schoolchildren. From the Galilee to the Negev, ISEF helps gifted disadvantaged children from all cultural backgrounds.

By enabling bright young minds to reach their highest intellectual potential, ISEF empowers Israeli society as it faces the complex challenges of the 21st century.

Sephardic Educational Center
The International Sephardic Educational and Cultural Center in Jerusalem (SEC) was established in 1979. Its Founder and President, Dr. Jose A. Nessim, saw a tremendous void and great need to create an international Sephardic oriented center to educate the 1.3 million Sephardim living in the Diaspora. Sephardim depended and still depend on Ashkenazi institutions practicing different degrees of Judaism, not the traditional Judaism practiced by our forefathers and by us.

We have had over 25,000 young people ages 15-36 that have come from all over the Diaspora to rediscover their roots. We have a teaching staff and offer many activities for all the ages.

The SEC bought the three buildings we have leased since 1979, for $7.5 million. We are currently remodeling the buildings to meet our educational needs. In September 2005 we will start a university course at the Hebrew University to educate and train Sephardim to serve the Sephardic communities of the Diaspora. Scholarships are available. It is a must for the SEC to accomplish its goal to educate, unite and organize the Sephardim of the Diaspora in order for us to survive as Jews. We have chapters worldwide.
