| The Library & Archives collects, preserves and provides
access to resources for the study of Jews tracing their ancestry
back to the Iberian Peninsula, North Africa, the Middle East,
the Balkans and the Orient. The materials and the expertise
of our Librarian are available
to individuals engaged in scholarly research as well as anyone
wishing to explore Sephardic culture and traditions. The collection
includes over 4,000 books, 150 periodicals, oral histories,
videotapes, archival records and artifacts.

For general help on search and navigation options, click
on the help button on the search screens. There are also
various help links next to specific search categories on
the search screens.

General steps
To do a search, type words or phrases in field(s) you want
to search and click the " Submit Query " button
You can also browse terms in a specific field (e.g. author)
by clicking the " Word Wheel " button (if available).
You will see the complete list of keywords in that particular
field and you can paste search term(s) into the search field
A message will appear telling you how many records were
found. Ten records are displayed per page in brief format
(in a table) If there are more than 10 search results, a
button will appear for the next 10 records, etc. Records
are sorted alphabetically by author/editor, title, and date.
Full Display
To display the whole result list in full display form, pick
the display form " Web Full " from the drop list
at the top of the result screen. To view one record in full
display form, click on the title of the record (in the brief
display table). The used search terms are displayed in bold
font. To return to the list of records click on the "
Back " button of your Internet browser.
Modification of Search and Starting a New Query
To modify an original search query, go back to the query
screen by using the " Back " button of the Internet
browser, then modify the search question. To clear the search
screen and to start a new query press the " Reset "
button. To start a new search click on the " Simple
Query Screen " or " Advanced Query Screen "
link.
Limiting search to specific collections
A standard query will search all materials in the Library,
Archives, and Periodicals collections. To limit your query
to a specific collection type in "Archives ,"
" Library," or " Periodicals " in the
box labeled "Collection," or choose one of these
terms from the drop list.
Search Tip
The " Keyword " search covers the major fields
in the database and is a valuable search field for general
queries. For specific queries select individual fields (e.g.
author).
