The Midwest Division of ASF began to take shape in 1989,
in preparation for the ASF Convention, which took place in
Chicago on Labor Day weekend, 1990. Many members of the Sephardic
Congregation organized itself to make the convention the success
that it was. Following the convention, the majority of the
group stayed together to form the Midwest Division.
The mission of this division is to bring together all Sephardim
on a cultural level, whether Ladino speaking or Sephardim
from Arab lands, We meet once a month and we welcome the entire
community.
The organization sponsors a “Fijones Night”,
with entertainment once each year. We also organize a summer
picnic and other cultural events with speakers giving talks
with Sephardic content. The membership consists of approximately
100 people. Although not all members are active in the regular
functioning of the organization, many are.
